On May 19, 2026, Contentful enabled its enterprise customers to stream Content Delivery API (CDA) logs directly to Google Cloud Storage – alongside AWS S3. Teams on Google Cloud can thus integrate API activity logs directly into their existing observability infrastructure, without detours via third-party providers.
The feature addresses a concrete problem of enterprise-driven DXP projects: anyone running their infrastructure on GCP was previously forced to route Contentful logs to AWS S3 first and then synchronize them to GCS – additional effort that unnecessarily increased latency and complexity. With Enterprise Observability, teams can stream Content Delivery API logs into the same environments where they already monitor applications and infrastructure. This enables more practical ways to troubleshoot, track performance trends and connect Contentful activity with the broader stack context – bringing delivery signals directly into the operational workflows teams already rely on.
Why it is strategically relevant:
Digital experience platforms are judged not only by how well they help teams create and manage content, but also by how they function as parts of the systems behind modern digital experiences – where performance and reliability have a direct business impact. Teams want to apply the same operational rigor to content delivery that they already practice in the rest of the stack.
The logs contain request details such as request time, response status, cache behavior and latency. With real delivery logs, teams can recognize patterns such as rising latency, inefficient request verbs or increasing cache misses, and then make changes based on evidence rather than guesswork.
Practical implications for GCP-based projects:
1. Native integration instead of workarounds: Logs land directly in GCS, eliminating intermediate layers and reducing operational overhead.
2. Tooling continuity: Enterprise teams have already invested in cloud infrastructure and observability platforms such as Datadog, Splunk or Grafana, along with the alerting workflows and dashboards around them. They want platforms to fit into this operating model, not force a parallel one. Contentful Observability is designed to integrate directly into this existing ecosystem.
3. Roadmap clarity: This is only the first step. Expansion will follow in two directions: additional APIs (Content Preview, Content Management, GraphQL) and more cloud destinations, including Azure and Google Cloud. It is therefore foreseeable that further observability touchpoints will follow.
Our recommendation:
For enterprise DXP projects with a GCP focus, this is a free efficiency upgrade. If you already operate Datadog, Splunk or Grafana and use Contentful on an Enterprise plan, activating CDA log streaming to GCS should be on the technical agenda – ideally combined with an audit of the performance baselines to document optimization potential before and after activation.
For teams without an Enterprise plan: this is a good argument for a plan upgrade if high-traffic scenarios or performance-critical launches are coming up.
