Frequently Asked Questions

Liferay at Portalworks

Is Portalworks an official Liferay partner?

Yes. Portalworks is a Liferay Silver Partner and is listed in the official Liferay Partner Directory.

This partner status provides access to Liferay resources, the product roadmap, and support channels—and thus a direct escalation path to the vendor should a project require it.

How long has Portalworks been working with Liferay?

Portalworks has been working with Liferay since 2008 and has completed over 50 portal projects in the DACH region—ranging from Liferay 6.1 to the latest 2026 versions.

What Liferay services does Portalworks offer?

Four areas: Consulting (architecture assessment, proof of concept, workshops, GDPR and BITV analysis), Development (portlets, fragments, client extensions, front ends), Migration (version upgrades and system changes), and Hosting and Operations.

All four services are provided from a single source, with a single point of contact instead of rotating project teams.

Does Portalworks also develop client extensions and headless front ends?

Yes. Portalworks works with the latest Liferay technologies: Client Extensions, Liferay Objects, and the Headless APIs.

Front ends are built using React, Angular, Vue, or Next.js—either embedded in Liferay or as a standalone application that uses Liferay as its content backend.

Does Portalworks also operate Liferay portals itself?

Yes. Portalworks handles managed hosting and operations—on-premises or in the cloud, using Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift.

This includes monitoring and alerting, security patches, performance tuning, and, upon request, an alert hotline. Hosting is provided in Germany in compliance with the GDPR.

In which industries has Portalworks implemented Liferay portals?

These include the aviation technology, industrial, and commercial vehicle sectors; staffing services; retail; sports associations; industry associations; and the public sector—in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

Notable projects include Lufthansa Technik, Hays.de, and the Swiss Parliamentary Services.
