02 · DEVELOPMENT

Configuration before custom code

Business logic is built as a data model inside the platform. We write code where the model reaches its limits, for example at the interface to an ERP or line-of-business system. This reduces the effort for future upgrades.

Plugins SDK, portlets built the old way. Usually a rebuild of the business logic rather than a port.
7.0 – 7.3
OSGi modules already in place. Upgrade via 7.4, modules are brought up to date.

The core task is the Jakarta EE conversion of custom code. Liferay’s scripts automate roughly half of it.
2026.Q1 LTS
Three years of premium support, new CMS, MCP server. The current target for migrations.
Since 2026.Q1, only a license key separates free use from commercial use. The license question is independent of the upgrade and can be settled at any time.

Liferay PaaS
Liferay runs the infrastructure in the cloud, we run the application.
In every model: named contacts with a designated deputy, assessment of Liferay security advisories for your system, one version upgrade planned per year. Response times and hours are agreed per contract.

Is Portalworks an official Liferay partner?

Yes. Portalworks GmbH, based in Mainz, is a Liferay Silver Partner for the development, migration and operation of Liferay DXP. The platform is made by Liferay Inc.; Portalworks is an independent partner company.

Which Liferay versions does Portalworks work with?

With all versions from 6.1 to the current quarterly release 2026.Q3. New projects are built on the current version; existing portals are migrated to 2026.Q1 LTS.
